July 2021 Covid Update

We appreciate that the Government is moving towards relaxing and removing all of the restrictions and rules that have been introduced to prevent the spread of Covid. Healthcare settings are to remain vigilant and we, in keeping with other local practices, are going to continue to insist on the wearing of face coverings and social distancing. This is because we are viewed as an essential service and we need to do everything that we can to be able to maintain levels of staffing, and also because patients may access our services with symptoms that are yet to be diagnosed as Covid 19. We would be appreciative if patients can bear with us throughout this period. We are also continuing with our 'book on the day' system and extensive use of telephone triage until things feel safer in the locality.

Dispensary Opening Hours from 28th June 2021

Please note that from Monday 28th June2021 the Dispensary at the surgery will not open until 9am. The main door will still open at 8.30am for appointments. We regret you will be unable to collect your prescriptions before 9am from this date forward. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

COVID-19 Vaccinations

All Adults of 18 years or above are now entitled to Coronavirus vaccinations. If you have not yet had yours you can book by calling 119 or visiting the local booking site at or the national site at

We are not currently booking patients for first vaccines or second vaccines at the surgery due to the vaccine that is used in younger age groups needing to be stored at extremely low temperatures.

COVID-19 Results

If you have had a test organised by the surgery we are more than happy for you to call to discuss your results. If however you have been tested by your employer or in a testing environment outside the surgery we would ask that you contact the organiser of your test as we do not always have capacity to deal with these results.

FLU Immunisations 2020

If you are 65 years or older or are eligible due to conditions that put you at higher risk, please phone to book for your flu appointment . Please note we are not yet able to offer flu vaccines to under 18s or those whose only risk factor is being over the age of 50 as we are awaiting stock. We appreciate that the government have recommended vaccination to all over 50s but they have not yet arranged the additional deliveries of vaccine. Should you wish to have this vaccination as soon as possible it is possible it is being offered privately by pharmacies for rates of around £8 to £14.

If you have an appointment please arrive as close to on time as you can wearing clothes that give us easy access to your shoulders. We will be operating a one way socially distanced system on the day. You will also need to wear a face covering and will have your temperature checked.

Face Coverings from 15th June 2020

If you have an appointment at Hounsfield Surgery you will  now need to wear a face covering. This could be a mask or scarf. Any item that covers the nose and mouth.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Any patient who has a pre booked appointment with the GP, Nurse or Health Care Assistant is advised  to telephone the surgery before attending.

Novel Coronavirus Outbreak

If you believe that you have symptoms (including fever, shortness of breath and cough) that may represent infection with the novel coronavirus that originated in Wuhan, China please bear in mind that this is highly infective and you should not leave the building that you are in except on medical advice. NHS 111 can be contacted for further information and the surgery can offer telephone advice. ON NO ACCOUNT should you travel to the surgery. Payment for Prescriptions and Services

We are now able to accept card payments at the dispensary to pay for prescriptions and other chargeable services.

NEW: Text message appointment reminders.  If you would like to receive reminders for your appointments, please contact the surgery.

We have started to send text messages to patients for health promotion and appointment confirmation reminders.

Please ensure that the surgery has your correct mobile telephone number

Appointment reminders by text are an additional service and these may not take place on all occasions, the responsibility of attending appointments or cancelling them still rests with the patient.

The surgery does not offer a reply facility to enable patients to respond to texts directly.

Text messages are generated using a secure facility. However please understand that they are transmitted over a public network onto a personal telephone and as such may not be secure. However, the practice will not transmit any information which would enable an individual patient to be identified.

Owing to the near universal popularity of this service we make the assumption that having given us your phone number we may make calls or texts to it but if you have particular needs please let us know.
